The Manuherikia Catchment Water Strategy Group was formed in 2011 to investigate the best way to use the Manuherikia Valley’s available water, to jointly benefit landowners who need water and the environment.
The MCWSG endeavours to reflect all interests. It comprises local landowners, the local irrigation companies, environmental and conservation groups, including Forest and Bird, Fish and Game, the Central Otago Environmental Society and the Department of Conservation, iwi, district and regional councils, and local business people.
The group’s aim is to “sit around the table” and – through visionary leadership, robust science, and open and transparent discussions among people with different perspectives – find an innovative solution which is acceptable to the wider community.
